LS1's Braking into 12's STOCK?
Ok I keep hearign that some ppl ran high 12's with a stock LS1.
Looking at most Ls1's they run mid to low 13's stock, so I really want to see proof that some stock LS1's pilled high 12's!
So if anyone has a mag. article or anyting let me know
thanks

My car ran a 12.97@108.4 all stock except for 17x9 Firehawk wheels with 275/40/17 Nitto 555RII's on all four corners.

Im going to the track on tuesday for the first time, please tell me when to shift each gear (and to avoid the stupid skip shift) so I can at least get 13.1's

Shift every gear at 6K???? Isen't that a bit high especially for first??
Yeah...unless the car is used, don't work her too hard the first runs.
Shift at like 4-5k depending on how you're feeling. That would be my recommendation...Of course, you'll get high #'s with this, however, I'd rather get high #'s now, breaking her in the right way, than getting my engine ***** to next sunday just to pull off STOCK #'s...

thats why dyno pulls help.. See for me, my power drops off at about 5500 rpm.. so holding it another 500 rpm would not be a good idea in my case so I hit about 55-56 which in turn translates to about 57ish by the time the gear is swaped so I can keep my runs consistant.
I run consistant 13.4 with a fastest of 13.2
I think that those cars running 12.9x or so are few and far btw because its a matter of weight and horsepower. I dyno (repeatedly) a respectable 315 rwhp bone stock. So thats not too shabby. now on stock tires pulling a 1.9 which would be at about the stock tires limit, that would give me .1 over my 13.2 time.. so there is a 13.1... with more traction thus no longer stock I should be able to bring it down to the 13.0 range.. maybe breaking into 12.9x territory.. but again we are talking stock which does mean tires.
Horsepower, weight and ET are all relative.. its why I have a hard time believing anyone with 390hp in a 4000 hp car will run 11's (people you meet that bs and think they know stuff) sure it will pull 12's but the weight of the car and the power will not see low 11's (guy in defensive driving was talking about it) haha..
Now if you were to possibly take out the spare, jack and extras... keeping the car stock and possibly making a hard top tip the scales at 3300ish pounds (light on gas too) and haveing a 135 lb driver.. I think you may be able to see it.. But I have T-tops and refuse to remove my spare.. and there is no way I am losing 60 lbs any time soon.. hahha
Thats my take after reading thousands of posts all over about the fabled LS1 stock 12's....

I watched a guy run a 13.3@105 stock in a fully-loaded 2001 auto, so I have no doubt that a light-optioned 6-speed on a well-prepped track with a good driver could hit 12.9s, but I have yet to see it in person.

When my Formula was stock, I took it to the track. It was ~60 degrees..
The best run was a 13.3@108 mph
This was on a poor 2.2 60ft. I hadn't learned the slip the clutch technique yet.
I was running 107 and 108 mph trap speeds and low 13s all evening. This was a little ol' '98 model LS1. I imagine it was putting out 300-310 rwhp. That was easily the most fun I have ever had at the track! I had no idea it was running that strong when I had pasted a turbocharged integra earlier on..but there I was, beating modded stangs and out-trapping just about every street car.
The dragstrip is at 1300 ft..
12s are very possible, even in an older LS1. A 1.9 or low 2.0 60ft is probably necessary, though.
