Post LS1 Wheelie

About how much crank or wheel horsepower does it take to do a wheelie? I mean the minimum amount in order to do what you'd consider a wheelie. Also, how long can the stock suspension take this for? Is there any way to beef it up to take the abuse?

I don't know that you could do it on the stock suspension. You would most likely need to purchase a lot of aftermarket equipment to get the car to hook up well enough to pull a wheel.

Exactly! Its not in how much HP you have, its how well your suspension is set up.

I lifted tires in 2000, with 375rwhp/408tq...

I lift them higher with 450rwhp/500tq.

Cool

The only suspension mods I have done to my car are a set of G2 LCA relocation brackets, an airbag in the right rear spring, and a set of Hal QA1 12-way adjustable Hal struts. My best 60' time is a 1.588, and you can click on my homepage posted in my sig to see the picture. This is with 361 RWHP. I am getting ready to upgrade with the G2 torque arm, lightweight control arms, and lightweight panhard rod. Another cam swap is in order, too.

Can you do this with a stock rear end? Can the stock rear end handle many of these launches?

I'd say "yes" and "no". If you had everything just right (power, traction) your rear end will hold to do this a couple times, but don't expect to go out and behave like a bike and pull "wheelies" at every stop light --- something in your rear end will break (unless something before the rear end breaks - ie: transmission or driveshaft).

To go out and start pulling wheelies, you'd need a lot of beefed up parts on your car, otherwise you're gonna start breaking $h!t left, right, and center. JMO.

All you have to do is put hydraulics on the front and right when you take off, it will lift the front. Then you get your wheelie.

My 95 firebird would lift the front tires about 3" with totally stock suspension and 28x10.5W et streets. The guy I bought my car from did not believe in after market suspension.
