Is an LS1 still considered an SBC?

This is a post from the forums on MotorSportConnect.com:

An LS1 is an SBC, you didn't specify. Thought you had more big plans for your Camaro. I was starting to get excited
Negative. the LS1 is a GenIII motor which has nothing in common with the SBC. The LT1 is more SBC because there was still some parts interchangability like cams and intakes, etc.

I'll learn you yet! Usually when people say SBC, they mean SBC. They use LT1 to describe GenII and LS1 to describe GenIII.

I thought the LS1 was still considered a small-block Chevy engine... am I wrong?

It's not a big block. Yes, it is still a small block. Just because parts from old SBC's don't work in them does not mke them "not" small blocks. True they are refered to as a Gen 3 engine, it is still a SBC.

To me that's like saying "It's not an SBC, it's an L98"

Exclamation

LS1? SBC? GenIII? I really don't care what is is being referred to as being.

To me it's one helluva engine and I know what it is made of and what it is capable of and that's pretty much enough for me.

I'll second that! It's not the "classic" small block, but as stated, it certainly isn't a big block!

I think 400cid and smaller were considered a SBC. Probably applies to crate engines now.
