a friend of mine has a 99 SS with a descreened MAF and an aftermarket muffler. He has run a 13.1 quarter mile and is looking to beat that. His budget is about $600 - does anyone have any good suggestions? What mod would make the biggest difference at the track?

 

airbox lid. catback (if he's not happy with the muffler). LS6-intake (if he *is* happy with the muffler).

Or, airbox lid & a set of Nittos...

Cut out and some Nittos.

 

Add free mods and a lid to that and he'll still be below $600 and also below 13.0.

In the GM tech magazine they gain 10rwhp with the free mods. A pair of drag radials,cutout,lid and a pcm tune is what I would do in his shoes.

 

A pcm tune w/a stock engine is pointless.
