OK, so my 98 T/A is , u guessed it, making a wierd sound. About 20 seconds or so after I start the car I hear this rattly and slightly abrasive sound. It kinda sounds like, if you could imagine, a coke can pop-top thing getting sucked in the engine somehow, I know that's not what it is but thats what it sounds like. Any ideas? I heard that the egr makes a wierd noise, is this the kind of noise it makes? any ideas? thx

 

if the sound you're describing is the same one im thinking of, i don't think its a problem, mine does it too....when you start the car, do you hear the slight whining coming from the AIR pump, then it shuts off and you start hearing that noise????then it goes away when the car warms up?

if so, i have it too, i've had it for awhile and it doesn't seem to hurt anything.

 

my car was doing the same thing (like a rattling.....pinging noise). It was one of my O2 sensors....it as loose. but im not sure if this is the noise your describing.

 

yep thats it.....good to know im not the only one. I'm pretty sure it the egr, oh well....

 

ok cool, yea it's a little weird but it never seemed to hurt anything, plus you can really only hear it with the hood up unless you're listening hard.
