LS1 Low Idle
I had to sell our camaro 3 years ago to make room for the baby. Now I finally bought another one, an 01 Z28 automatic. Just joined the forum and I am hoping that someone can help me out with a little problem. The car runs and drives fine, but the idle is a little low, @500 rpm in drive with a slight miss, and will stall sometimes in stop and go traffic. No check engine light. My 1st thought was something was disconnected but I cannot find anything. Anyone have any thoughts? If not, can anyone personally recommend a shop in the Long Island New York area to look at it? Also, the car has 40K miles on it, should I run fuel injector cleaner? Thanks

Re: LS1 Low Idle
Injector cleaner for the most part is worthless so don't bother with that. The idle on an A4 car should only be 550 RPM while in gear. The stalling sounds odd, might be related to something else, definitly get that check out.
Re: LS1 Low Idle
Just a thought, but auto LS1's are very finicky about ported/aftermarket MAF's. You might want to check to see if the MAF has not been tampered with and could be causing the stalling.
Otherwise the other options presented might be your next step.
BTW The low idle in gear sounds about right, maybe a little low at best, but not by much.

MAF is best cleaned with alcohol and a q-tip. Be careful of the tiny wires.
Do not use carb cleaner on the TB -- it is too harsh. There is a TB cleaner available at any auto parts store. Best to remove TB for a more thorough cleaning.

Re: LS1 Low Idle
Make sure you remove he TB if possible. There is always a bunch of buld up behind it. There should be a hole (small one) either in the butterfly valve or on the side of the TB (inside) that the air flows through when idleing. If this hole has some crap built up in it, the car will not idle write. Clean it out good.
Make sure you use TB cleaner. If you use Carb cleaner, you will be doing a tune up after a few days, trust me i know from past experience.

Re: LS1 Low Idle
Checked everything over and found a small hole in the underside of the factory bellows. I ordered a smooth one from SLP. Car did not seem to run any different after I plugged the hole with some tape. I'll let you guys know if that made the difference with stalling. BTW, even with this problem it passed NYS emissions.

Also clean th AIC valve, its that sensor plugged into your throttle body.
