What? Hondas don't need oil, plug, and filter changes?


I also have to disagree w/the M6 gets worse milage in the city comment. I easily get 18 mpg w/pure city driving. I do mostly a mix of city/hwy and get 21-22 mpg. All this w/out driving like a grandma.

 

I have 113,000 miles on my LT1 and my pump and filter were replaced at 105,000 miles as was my battery and tranny mount other than that i've just been modding it...i can't say it will be the same with your LS1 though but just save an extra like $500 for incase ****.

 

I think Gas Mileage is a reasonable question I'm sorry you got lambasted for asking. My LT1 when in stock trim got about 19 or so in the city and 28 to 30 on the highway in stock trim. LS1's will easily do as good. I got 22mpg in the city once, but I did drive like a grandma on that tank. I think 17mpg will allow you plenty of fun in the city...and 28 to 32 for an LS1 on the highway is very doable.

 

Don't come down on the kid....we have all kind of been in his situation. A 6 speed LS1 will get decent gas milage for you unless you expect Civic like MPG.

 

thanks for the help, I really do drive like a gramma but that's because I drive a gramma car. Even in my mom's G35 sedan I often have the urge to break the speed limit and it's not even close to LS1 fast. I know I'll drive a bit faster in the LS1 but I hope I'm not constantly fighting an urge to gun it. One of the real reasons I love to drive the G35 fast is because I'm rarely behind the wheel of anything beside my 97 corolla. So I'm hoping for at least 18 in the city!

One more question... at what speed and what gear do you guys get the best highway gas mileage? On another forum I visit people say they get up to 30 MPG at 85mph in 6th gear. That'd be a dream if I'm driving between collegetown and hometown for several thousand miles a year.

 

My LS1 averages about 19-20 MPG in every day driving. Our 2004 MB C230 Kompressor actually is about the same, and it's a 4 banger with considerably (and I do mean considerably) less power. These cars are pretty economical all things considered but they aren't fuel misers. If you want economy and sport, get a Civic Si, Integra GSR, Celica GTS, or something along those lines.

 

My LT1 got a best of 30mpg at just under 90mph...I think it was 88 mph. LS1's do the same or better. My buddy has a vette and got 33 on a trip to dallas there's lots of guys around here that get 31/32.

 

As for gas mileage, I know if you do a search, there was a thread somewhat recently about LS1 gas mileage. I can get up to 32 mpg on the highway w/the T-tops down. Just put it in 6th gear, get up to just over 80 mph and set cruise control. My last car was an '01 Civic, and in town it kicks the T/A's *** for gas mileage. On the highway at anything over 75 mph, my LS1 gets better mileage! 6 speed vs Civic's 5 speed, and at that speed the Honda was screaming to keep the car at speed. The LS1 is puttering along at <2000 rpm in 6th gear. Every time I fill up I miss my Civic. But then I sit down in my car and hit the gas pedal and forget all about gas mileage and other mortal concerns.

As far as the lifespan of an LS1, your power windows will go out. As some have previously mentioned, fuel pumps are sometimes an issue, but that's a GM problem, not an F-body issue. Rear ends are an issue for some. And rear tires seem to wear out at a rapid pace. If you're considering an LS1 vs. a Mustang, go GM. They both will have their issues, but a GM is still more reliable, will hold its value better, and the first time you toast a Mustang in your F-body you will realize what a good decision it was.

haha yeah I'm sure if I get the Stang I'll miss the F-Body I never had. It's just a matter of coming up with a few more grand.

 

A really good way to not have fuel pumps go out is to simply change the filter once a year or every 15k miles whichever comes first. I have been doing that and I dont have any issues with 100k on the clock. Granted I have an LT1 car, but still proper maintenance of a few cheap 20 dollar parts makes a big difference.

 

There is no reason why any decent late model car shouldn't last 120k miles if you take car of it.

 

I get about 21mpg and I drive 18 miles to school every day of the week one way, about 14 of which are highway driving. I have an A4 though so that could work. I have a lid and thats it. I did notice a gain in power and a bit better gas mileage but Im not sure on the mileage as I didnt really take much notice before. Good luck with finding a nice car man, take your time and find the one YOU want.
