LS1 Intake question

Someone please explain to me why the intake is the way it is for the LS1's??? I know how the LT1's work for cold air and ram air but looking at my 02 Z i just got, it just doesnt make since how they think that much cold air will come in there. I know you can buy a new lid and a vent in front of the air dam to force air up that direction but it doesnt look nearly as affective as the LT1's. It's almost like i would need to buy a new hood and get the ram air intake setup so i can actually see a difference. All i'm seeing on mine is that there is a small 1 inch gap the length of the filter to suck in air inside the engine compartment. Someone talk some sense into me please, help me understand this nonsense.

SSRA will cure that. And if you do the math thet 1'' by 14'' long gap is equal to more square inches than the throttle body.

not sure they really intended "cool air" to be the big issue when they built it.
although the way the nose is setup that "air slot" draws air from in front of the radiator...which is pretty exposed to outside air.

it really isn't as bad as you think.

but like al said....SSRA

Or you can cheap out (like I did! ) and do the Free Ram Air mod (do a search on FRA mod ... I'm sure you'll find the "how to") ... after doing that mod, THAT is where the filter is always the dirtiest, so obviously it picks up all the air there from doing the mod (basically, it's just cutting out the plastic bottom of the air filter "box").

Actually, check www.installuniversity.com. They have a write-up on it I believe .
