LS1 info Please

hey guys, i was wondering ill be getting rid of my LT1 car and after basic training is over and tech school ill be looking to get an LS1 car, mainly cuz the whole optispark set up has pushed me to the endof my patience and of my wallet (i.e. bank account), any who i was wondering what is the best LS1 car to get SS, Trans Am, WS6 Trans Am, Firehawk, Formula? (excluding Vettes) and what year has the most aggresive comp. tuning and Cam (i was told 02) but want to be sure from guys that actually ownthem, also is there any trouble some things too look for with LS1 motors, like with LT1s its the intakes leak around the back, rear main seal usually is something that has to be replaced, optis all that stuff, i know the lifters in those cars on a cold motor make alittle noise but is there any real like quirks or anything too look for when i go LS1 shopping, thanks!!!!!!

I'd say the best platform to start from is an '02 Z28. It's got certain benefits like an updated clutch hydraulic assembly, LS6 intake, etc. If you're not happy with the cam that comes in the later years (since it's a bit less agressive), you can get the LS6 cam and springs for under $300. The LS6 cam is stronger, but there's not a massive amount of lope like other aftermarket cams. Then of course there are the common mods...start checkin out some parts sites to get a good idea of what's on the market and for how much $$$. There's also a few posts in this forum about modding LS1's.

Well, since you have a 30th anniversary. Why not sell it and get a used 35th?

well im really want a black or white LS1, plus all that heritage stuff doesn't really mean anything to me (not to sound disrespectful to the F-body or anything) i thjnk those cars are for the older huys who put 2 miles on them every year and don't mod'em, plus i think its kinda bad luck for me to have an aniversary car...

Well actually all 02 Camaros have that 35th Anniversary Plaque in them... When they are used a great ploy by dealers (especially) where they will market an 02 Camaro, Z28 or SS as an 35th Anniversary Camaro, Z28 or SS.... The only true 35th Anniversary Camaro is the Special Edition SS (Red w/ Silver Stripes)...

What SSpdDmon said is true but 01 is basically the same car (not sure though) but I do know it has the LS6 Intake though.. All I will say is if you want to save money go with any year 98 - 00 F-body (especially a Formula or Z28) and you can add LS6 Intake and Update the Clutch ***..

The cam in the 02 is the 6.0 truck cam, put in for more tq, if you are just going for power any year is going to have it, and they all look the same pretty much, so buy the one you get the best deal on, but of corse I would get an 02 z!!
