Stall converter goes in your transmission, It's about $600 for a decent one and you don't want to cheap out on one either.

Go outside and push the gas and brake at the same time without spinning the tires. If it goes over 2000-2500 rpm and the car stays put without spinning the tires, you're good to buy pretty much any cam within reason.

And take that Hypertech crap off the car.
