ls1 head swap

i was looking on a heads and cam swap and not sure wut to get. i was looking in to the Patriot Performance ported LS6 heads the flow over 300cfm. i compared them to afr and they seem pretty damn good for half the price. does anyone have these heads or heard anything about them? i am also gonna get a new cam and QTP LT so i am looking for a good combo for these. street use mostly but dont mind a little rough

Over-inflated flow benches, poor valve jobs, etc... I mean for the cost they are not terrible; but are nowhere near a "cheap" version of an AFR/ET/TF head.

IMO

Agreed.

Only a handful of vendors can make a set of factory LS1/LS6 heads work worth a ****.

Those Patriot heads usually flow 30+ cfm LESS than what they are rated. Get the AFRs if you can afford them. If not, there are a couple of places that offer far better heads for the same price as Patriot.

thanks for the heads up. also i was looking in to the trick flow top end pack, or the dart pro heads....anything on these heads? i had trick flow twisted wedge heads on my 5.0 back in the day and they worked great with the street heat intake and mild cam, so should i even consider these guys?

The 225cc Dart Pro-1s are very nice for the money... I think they were around $1400 when I got them a couple years ago... no idea what they are now.

I believe the CNC 215cc Trick Flow heads to be just about the best head on the market for a 346, and that includes the hand ported stuff by the premier LS1 guys. The only problem is the cost, and the fact that you must run an aftermarket adjustable rocker setup, which adds even more cost.

No need to change the rockers from anything but stock on most hydraulic roller builds.. well besides for the Trickflows

so is there any reason i would need to change my rockers...would it give me any more power? or just cost a bunch of money for like 2 hp?

The only time you need to upgrade the rockers is if you signifcantly alter the valvetrain geometry. Some aftermarket heads change the valve angle, and that requires an adjustable valvetrain, which the aftermarket rockers provide. Most aftermarket rockers add valvetrain weight where you do not want it, and can lower power and RPM potential due to valve control problems. The only exception to that would be a 1.8:1 ratio rocker, but they are only beneficial (and minimally at that) with stock cams.

Spend your money elsewhere

I would let AI port a set of 241 or 243s and set you up with a custom cam.
