An LS1 that hasn't been run in 2+ years at ALL...

It's a 98 and has 190K miles one it and hasn't even been started since the beggining of 2006. It was in great condition otherwise. The guy who drove it basically just drove it on the interstate and all over the country and then parked it when fuel started getting high. I can get it real cheap and easy.

Thing is, he's saying that since it hasn't been started in so long, if we tried to start it and drive it home, we'd blow the motor... ...is this true? will it need a rebiuld immediately?

It isn't leaking anything so I was thinking at first it would only need an oil change...

I would just go through all the fluids. Change the oil for sure before starting it. Check coolant level and color. If it looks in bad shape flush it before starting or at least drain the radiator and fill it back up. You should be ok. Might check the plugs or at least one or two. If it has that many miles on it they could be pretty filthy and after sitting that long it kinda hardens up. then fire it up.

Put as much fresh gasoline in it as possible with a couple of cans of fuel system cleaner.
Start it up and let it run a while then change the motor oil and filter. Drive it home then change all of the fluids, everything. Engine, trans, diff, coolant, PS, and brake fluid. If it's a stick then even the clutch fluid.

I think that my biggest concern would be seals drying up from sitting for so long. After checking and changing fluids as required I'd start it up and let it run thru a couple heat cycles checking levels and for leaks to be sure

If you can, it sure wouldn't hurt to prime it with oil before you fire it up.

One question, how do I change the power steering fluid? I've never done that before...

Good advice so far. You may also want to turn the engine over by hand a few times before starting.

the engine in my car sat for 6 years.. i put oil in it, cranked it over by hand, cranked it over with the key with ignition unhooked, then fired it up.. it has twin turbos on it now so it will blow up... but its lasted 2000km so far.. it did smoke a bit a first but seems to have cleared up now. rings probably loosend up a bit.

Turkey baster, bulb syringe, or whatever you can use to suck it out

Same way you do the master/slave cylinder.

Change the oil, gas, and maybe the coolant.

My 396 LT1 sat up for around 1-2 years and after I restarted it, I had to burn the old gas out of it at around 7000 rpm

Tires are going to be flat-spotted, too.

Put fresh engine oil in, and disable the igntion/injectors and turn the engine over until you build up pressure. If it was ok before, it should be ok now.
