Re: LS1 Exhaust Question???

you should be ok as long as you get a set of O2 eliminators. i put them on when i took my cats off and no problems since ( that i know of ).

far warning your exhaust will increase in sound of course, what is your reason for taking them off?

Re: LS1 Exhaust Question???

you won't really gain much power, probably about 5hp.

mostly you'll jusst boost the sound.

and even if you remove the cats, but don't get the o2 sims, the computer will not do anything more than trigger the SES light. the code for the rear o2 sensors has no affect on the running condition of the engine

No kidding? i thought it messed with spark advance and made your car run a little more "conservatively" but if it just throws a code and does nothing else then I'mm gonna rip mine out soon lol.

Re: LS1 Exhaust Question???

I looked at my exhaust and it has O2 on each side before the catalyic converter by the exhaust manifold and then it has 2 more just about 40 inches after the cats. So wondering if i would still need so O2 simulator?

the front sensors are the VITAL sesors to the operation of the fuel injection kit. those don't get simulators.

the rear are there to monitor the fuctioning condition of the cats. that is whree the sims go.

you only need 2

Re: LS1 Exhaust Question???

There are provisions in the pcm for adjusting timing with regards to the cats. But, that is only during warm-up. Once the vehicle reaches operating temps, timing is independent of the cats. However, there is a feature called "Cat Overtemp Protection" (COT) that affects your fueling. A stock PCM will add extra fuel after a short amount of time when the vehicle is driven hard. Unless this feature is disabled, the PCM will command a rich ~11.5AFR to try and keep the cats from overheating. But, if they're not there, they can't overheat. You'll just have to find someone to turn that off for you...and they might as well delete the rear O2's in the process. Then, you don't need sims.
