LS1 Durability
Yo <p>
I want to purchase LS1 Trans Am. But, I do a bit of traveling every weekend, about 180 miles. For the most part, I just drive around town. So, my question is... can the LS1 engine withstand traveling? Highway mileage? If no, what are the reprocussions, if yes... what is the MPG? Thanks in advance...

i've heard of 100k+ ls1's out there. i'm pushing 65k on mine, and she's still running strong. just had her dyno'd and the results are in the sig. no complaints here.
if you're worried about mileage, get an M6. my last trip to oregon in 6th gear averaging about 75 mph, i got 28 mpg...

The LS1 is very much at home on the highway, especially M6 cars. Mileage is excellent for a V8. My LS1 could only muster 24mpg traveling 65mph in 6th but 29mpg is not unheard of for these cars. City driving I average ~16mpg but that's just because I can't stay off it.

It sure can withstand traveling. I drive about 400 miles per week and I average 22-23 MPG for mixed city and highway driving. I usually get around 260 miles from a tank of gas, and the needle is not even on E. Just be sure to use premium gasoline, change your oil and air filter every 3,000 miles and you'll be fine. As long as you take care of these cars, they make excellent daily drivers. Most people think because it's a high-performance car, that it has the everyday practicality of a Lamborghini or a Porsche, but that's not true at all, it's a great car to take trips in and drive a lot.

Just my weekly commute is about 300 miles. Plus then another 100 miles or so during the weekens. No problems whatsoever.
Just keep up with proper maintenance and you'll be just fine.
Gas mileage depends a whole lot on your right foot. On highway you can get anywhere from 25mpg up to 30+mpg. On a recent road trip to the west coast and back, we averaged about 25mpg which is pretty good for an A4. The trip included a whole lot of different driving conditions: highway, small back roads, city, mountains etc. etc..
Good luck!
