Post LS1 Computer

I was wondering what you can do to reprogram the computer in a 02 Z28. I heard that there was a program that you could put on your laptop and reprogram the computer. Also the car off the line is kind of slow. but when the RPM's get up there is boogies. It only has a 323 gear. I was thinking of putting a 393 in it. Is this wise or is this a bad idea. Also what would you reccomend to make the car a little quicker off the line. Thanks Rick

The program you refer to is "LS1 Edit". I'm sure someone will post a link. I think it's carputing.com but not sure.

As for the gearing ... you running M6 or A4 ?

If you're running an A4, a torque converter will be your best option for "off the line". Combine a 3000 stall converter with 3.42 (3.73 if you've got big *****) and you'll have a huge hole shot.

If you're running a M6 ... 4.10 will get you a nice increase of off the line performance.

Obviously since you say you've got 3.23's, your car is an Auto. Changing gears will definitely change the way your car performs --- especially in the SOTP feel!! 3.73's are supposed to be a really nice gear for autos - I've had an auto with 3.42's before, and that was a nice combo, but 3.73's are supposed to be that much "snappier". You mentioned 3.93's though --- either you meant 3.73's, or they're just not a common gear?? Regardless, lowering the gears in your car will definitely change the way it feels and performs.

In regards to computer programming: LS1 Edit is certainly one way to read and change the programming of your computer (probably the best??). There are also aftermarket programmers that simply plug-in to your car (Hypertech Power Programmer - HPP) that allow you to change certain parameters, but don't allow as much fine tuning as LS1 Edit (which plugs in via a laptop computer).

Good luck with your modding!

Yeah just in case you didn't know LS1's are famous for top end, above 3000 or so. People say the LT1 owns the bottom end.

And that link is correct, it's www.carputing.com although it's rather expensive, $550 US dollars. There are other LS1 edit programs available for cheaper, but LS1 edit is the best.
