LS1 blcok w/ TPI conversion

My cousin has a LS1 block with a TPI conversion. Now is this a good thing or bad i thought it would be bad because I heard that the TPI doesnt flow as good. Does this engine exist??? I've seen it but i guess im too dumb to know if it is infact wut he is saying.

There's a manifold available to put a carb on an LS1, so I suppose it would be possible to convert it to TPI, but there'd be no good reason to do so, the only reason you'd do the carb conversion is to run it in a vehicle without the engine management computer.

I'm pretty sure they're EFI.

Re: LS1 blcok w/ TPI conversion

TPI originally stood for "Tunned Port Injection". The LS1 motor intake manifold is tunned for the motor to get the most out of it. A lot of people have a habit of calling fuel injected motors "TPI".

That said, installing an actuall TPI manifold on a LS1 motor would be really stupid. Just to install it you would need a custom intake base plate. It would cost a fortune and get you nothing. Another problem is that these manifolds barely flowed enough to support the weak *** motor they were on.

In the end if you were able to install one on an LS1. You would loose about 30-50HP.

If you race your LS1, some sanctioning bodies have a rule about no fuel injection, so the carb would be there to cooperate with the rules.

They are port injected motors, but are not labled TPI motors.

Re: LS1 blcok w/ TPI conversion

TPIS and Edelbrock(I think) both make a manifold for installing a TPI setup on to an LS1 based motor that is being used in a hotrod or retro-fit setup of some sort. it is not intended to replace the stock manifold or EFI system and would probably not fit under the cowl of the f-body once the TB was installed.
