it's the air tube for the AIR system....buy a small filter from the parts store, sold near the PCV valves...cut the tube short and stick the filter on it...tuck it out of the way...

good to go

If your state has "smog inspection" (as mine does California), you will fail the visual with the tube unconnected to the lid.

I have an 01 Z28, and purchased the correct SLP lid for my year vehicle. It sounds to me that you have the 98 to 2000 lid.

No, he has a 98-99 lid (or a lid from one of the many manufactuers that doesn't have this provision), 2000 has the AIR tube also. I know, I own one.

As I stated, many lids do not even come with the provision for the tube, they come with a little K&N to pop in it. This is how mine is. Plug a filter in it and tuck it out of the way if your state's emissions allows. That'll be one less hose to look at. You will not throw any codes and it will not hurt your engine or performance any. Its just where the AIR pump sucks in air to pump into your exhaust system.

I agree, I just put a lid on an '00 and it had the hose into the lid. I don't see why this would fail inspection. It is hooked up to fresh air. The '98 and '99 had a seperate filter I believe, somewhere near the winshield washer bottle. Why would putting a breather filter on the end, make it fail emmissions?

Because thats how California is with all the Environazi Democrats that have been making the laws. lol The same reason they can't run any headers that would move the cats from the stock location, eventhough you could then run highflows that would make less backpressure making the engine more efficient and thus create less pollution and consume less fuel.

In the state of California, the emission systems are "closed", that's why the breather on the hose would not pass the visual, same with using valve cover breathers. If you use a catch can it can not have a breather on it.

You can use "shortie headers" as long as it has a C.A.R.B. number on it. These headers will not move the cats. When you replace your cats, you can only use C.A.R.B. legal replacements, or the manufacturers. However it would be pretty tuff for the smog inspection station to get you on the cats.

That's just the way it is.
