Best year 2002 if you can find them. 2001-2002 both had the LS6 intake; but for some reasons 2001's seem to use alot of oil (acc. to internet chatter).

But anything from 1999-2002 will still be fine. I'd look for low mile/good price before worrying about the difference in years. But the LS6 intake is nice to have and the later years had stronger rod bolts I believe as well.

If 2002 was the best year then thats the year I would like to get.The thing is I probably will have a 408 in the Camaro so maybe for me 1998 to 2002 doesn't make a difference I reallt don't know much about these cars except for most guy's saying they run good.

If you're going to build a motor and put on all of the boltons then find a nice looking f-body that you like and have at it.

I'm pretty sure he meant an F-body as in a Camaro/Firebird.

Any advantage in parts that you'd get by paying more for an 01-02 would end up in the parts pile if you're building a 408''er.

There's not much difference worth anything besides maybe the LS6 intake manifold on the 2001+, slightly better 241 casting heads on the 2001+, and 28# injectors on the 98 and 2001-2002 cars.

The 2001 cars seem to have weak oil rings in some cases. I'd steer clear of those entirely.

My favorite year is the 98. Cheapest and still an LS1. I will have to come up with $300 for a used LS6 intake manifold, but if you save a few thousand.....who cares?
