LS! Engine Idle
LS! Engine Idle
Hi guys,
I recently purchased a 2002 Z28 and have question regarding the enigne idle speed. It seems after the engine has completely warmed up, the engine idle speed is at around 1000rpm. Isn't that a bit high? All the other cars I experanced with usually have a idle speed of around 650 to 800 rpm. I'm wondering why the LS1 enigne has such high idle, or is it just my car.
Thanks,
Walter

I take it you have an M6? My 2002 M6 Z28 idles at slightly under 800 while in N and slightly over 800 when in gear after being fully warmed up. So, the 750-850 range seems to be what I've heard from other M6 LS1 owners.

I think my car usually idles around ~750rpm when in Park or Neutral, and around 600rpm when I'm stopped but with the car left in gear. Like others have said, I wouldn't really worry about it unless it sounds too high.
I have a 99 TA and I have a very low idle around 500 or 600 in gear but it goes up to about 700 when in neutral I know this isn't normal but don't know how to fix it with out a programer is there a way and help will be appriciated....
You must have a M6 tranny.
My '01 Z28 A4 would idle around 600 or less, but the first thing I noticed when I got the '01 WS6 M6 is that the idle speed is around 900 - 1000.
It's normal (if you have the M6)

These information has been very helpful to me. After knowing the tachometer might not be reading correctly on some of the Camaros, I went and check the idle speed with the autotap scanning tool. The idle is reading at around 800~850 RPM on my laptop. Guess the tech just wasn't calibrated correctly from the factory.
