Low maintenence Cam?

I talked with Futral on the phone, and they said The best cam they have to meet my 400-20 RWHP goal with P&P heads is the F11. and would make 390-400rwhp

Since this is still an agressive cam, are there any other grinds that will be more forgiving on the valvetrain?

I bought that "Chevy LS1/LS6 Performance" HP book, and they had an M6 Fbody with a 12bolt and with PP LS1 heads and a Lunati 220/230dur .534/.544 lift 114LSA that dyno'd 406 at the wheels.

To me it looks like the Lunati cam would be better for me and I wouldnt have to pull the valvecovers off every 30-40k miles!

Also, should i look into GM Cams?

Re: Low maintenence Cam?

You're comparing cam only futral numbers to cam/head numbers.

If you're wanting to do cam/heads, any of the smaller cams should get you in the neighborhood of 400 hp. Check out the LPE gt2-3, gt2-5 or some of the old grinds like the B1, T1 (221/221 .551/.551 IIRC). Lunati still makes similar grinds. I've seen people make 270-280 whp cam only with those little buggers. Not all do, but there are a lucky few.

Even with small lift cams, you'll still need to check the springs every 30k miles. Thats juts part of having a cam. For more lift, if you run some decent double springs you'll be just as low maintenance. People have problems because they'll run high lift with 918's that are at their limit of operation. Ya, they'll run up to a .6" lift, but the closer you are to that max the quicker they'll wear out. So if you run a .580 lift get some springs good to .650 and they'll last longer.

If you do want the Lunati grind, I've got a friend that has a used one he'd sell. If interested I'll check on the specs.

You'd make over 400 rwhp with the F-11 by itself. With ported heads, you'd easily make over 430-440.

Re: Low maintenence Cam?

Thanks Greed but I dont plan on getting it ordered for a month or two.

Al, yeah, 30k can be put on pretty quick with as much as I drive haha! I've been able to do it in a year.

But after talking to futral they said the best cam they had for my application would be the F-11. They suggested their manley dual spring/pushrod kit to go along with it. Does anyone have a ballpark of how long that would hold up, or a suggestion of good springs?

Thanks so much for the help too!

Re: Low maintenence Cam?

Excellent springs = Patriot Golds. You can get the whole kit w/ Titanium retainers, locks, seals and bases for $250 to your door from speedinc.

They're the same as the PRC and good to .650" lift. AFR uses them on their heads.

I think you'll like the F11. What LSA are you going with?

While you're at it, if you decide to get a new chain. The LS2 is a great deal.

Yes the chain is going to be replaced as well, and I think I'll take your advice on the LS2 and the patriot gold kit.
