Loud Mouth Vs. Hooker
I keep hearing about this Hooker exhaust, is it better perfomance wise then the Loud Mouth?
SLP Claims a 15-20 Horse Gain, and I want the Exhaust that gives the most HP. I don't care as much about sound, if I did I would be cheap and buy flows, But I wanted the performance edge. I was wondering what the numbers are on those two, and in your opinions what is the best exhaust?
(I love these smile faces.

I have the Hooker and love it. I would recomend it to anyone but if you are looking for the most hp then just get a cut out it will give you the most hp. Plus it is real cheap compared to the cat backs.

Hooker is a good exhaust but is a bit on the quiet side. I have a Magnaflow and it sounds great. Mean at WOT with a nice rumble at idle. I heard the SLP LM on a ls1 Formula and I hated it. Sounded like a dump truck. They all provided around same hp, give or take.
It seems that every one is avoiding the question. Which performs better, Loudmouth or Hooker?
The Loudmouth is basically a straight through exhaust so it will probably give you a few extra ponies. On a stock Z28, the gain for a Loudmouth would probably be around 15 hp. The Hooker would probably yield you 10 to 12 hp.
The advantages of the Loudmouth are that it’s stainless steel and has no restriction. The disadvantage would be if you plan on getting headers later, it would be really loud. You will either have to replace your cat back, cut out the resonator and replace it with a muffler or live with it being really loud.
The advantages of the Hooker are it's not as loud and still yields respectable gains. The disadvantage is it will rust and the tips look like crap after 1 year.
Both are priced low it just depends on what you like.
Good Luck,

Have you looked at SLP's Dual-Dual Cat-Back system? I have it and I like it a lot. Not as mean sounding as flows at idle but less restrictive. Much more tolerable than the loudmouth while gving up very few ponies. And sounds great at WOT! Plus if you go headers you will not attract every cop around you as you would with a loudmouth.
In my opinion you say you are more worried about power than sound but the difference in power is hardly noticeable. Do yourself a favor and pick the exhaust system that gets you off when you hear it.

LM sounds good with cats and stock manifolds, but put LT's on and is sounds like a$$...just listen to my ride. BUT- it is better flowing than Hooker. I have a friend with a 97 Z28 who dyno'd with both true duals and a Hooker catback, and with the Hooker he LOST over 10 rwhp.
The Hooker sounds better, but if you go with that get a cutout to get your power back

Sorry guys, I've never seen any dyno or track proof that the LM results in more power than the Hooker on an LS1. They all give roughly the same performance...you just have to pick what sound/price/other you like best...
The Hooker sounds decent with stock manifolds, and absolutely awesome with headers...
The Hooker is one of the cheapest catbacks you can get...
The Hooker has a reputation for rusting, but I had one on my 99 for 3 years, and had no rust on the piping. I did end up with a small rust spot on the tips, but Hooker now ships them with stainless steel tips...
So, BigRed, the answer to your question is probably 'no' - the Hooker doesn't have 'better' performance than the LM...it has the same. Depending on what all is done to your car, you may want to look into cutout(s) or true duals...
good luck,
Shane

Thanks for the responses. I am kinda more interested in this True Dual and all, maybe someone out there has a site I could go to and check this out?
That would be Awesome.
Anyways, to answer Jess, It's a 2002 35th An. ed. Bright Rally Red.... .. you only need the year but it just sounds so much cooler when I say it like that.
Thanks Again.

I do plan on getting Headers. They are stock at the moment, I just bought the car 3 weeks ago. I'm looking for now, need to get the cash money flowing to the point I can do mods and pay for the car at the same time.
