Loud exhaust setup

Im looking for a loud setup, I live in ca. so i cant go with longtubes. Anyways I have the SLP LM & Y its pretty loud but not loud enough. Is this the loudest i can go without going for LT? Is there any other mods i can add on? Cut out and LM are pretty much identical so im sticking with the LM. Any inputs..?

Remove the cats. Thats about the only thing you can do, outside of headers that will increase your volume. But Im guessing you arent getting LT's because of the smog deal we have here in CA, so you prob wont remove your cats for the same reason......

true duals, without any bullets, dumping before the axle

you must be insane or deaf to not think the LM is loud enough

Re: Loud exhaust setup

My TSP rumbler is so loud I worry about getting stopped by a cop. Its suppose to be almost identical to the LM. I cant imagine wanting it louder.

Re: Loud exhaust setup

I dont have LM or anything but wouldnt a cutout do the trick? I have long tubes ory and Hooker muffler (wich I dont recomend) and its queit as hell compared to what it is when I uncap the cutout.

Re: Loud exhaust setup

you can't even go with shorties or mid-length headers in CA? Bummer. You're screwed then. LOL you COULD cut the resonator muffler out of the setup and fill it in with plain ol' 3" stainless piping--- not sure how legal the
!muffler mod is. But if you want loud, that's the way to go, without installing headers or removing the cats. Also, installing a high-flow lid (whisper, SLP, MTI, etc) will increase volume.

Re: Loud exhaust setup

Install a cutout! You can't beat the volume of wide-open exhaust! Then if you want it to be louder, you need a new cam.

yeah install a cutout right after the headers that should be about the best setup for what your looking for it will get louder than what you want but not to much louder.

Re: Loud exhaust setup

i had longtubes in california. Also i had no cats. If you get headers and no cats, do NOT get a cutout. It will be way too loud and sound like ****. IMO any exhaust system sounds worse without cats. louder/more power yes, better no.

Exhaust sounds worse without cats?!??! Ha! IMO, NO CARS should have cats! They rob you of HP, they don't even work (made my '81 fail an e-test worse, WITH cats! ) and they make it too damn quiet! I hate them, and if you think that LT's with an open cutout sounds too loud and sounds like ****, then you should hear my Dad's '73 right now, 'cause we have the exhaust completely opened up (just open LT's, nothing else).....but that was for at the race track. Still though, it SOUNDS amazing.....I wish we could drive around legally like that all the time!

I think the SLP are 50state emissions legal, assuming you connect all your emissions equipment on 98-00 cars. I have the SLP headers and blow WAY under the averages on the sniffer, like fractions of their averages--- and I don't have my EGR or A.I.R. hooked up.

LOL cats didn't make you fail your emissions test, a poor setup did. Cars sound TERRIBLE without cats. Sounds like a bowl of rice crispies... snap, crackle, POP! Not to mention that lack of back pressure can actually cause you to LOSE power. A good set of hi-flow cats is a great solution. No loss of volume, and great, straight through flow with all the benefits of LEGAL emissions.
