I AM NEW TO THIS. TOOK MY NEW Z28 OUT TO THE TRACK FOR MY FIRST EVER RUN (14.49) AND WHEN SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO SECOND I HEARD A LOUD BOOM FROM THE BACK. IS THAT ALL THE HP OR TORQUE TRANSFERRING OUT? ANYTHING I CAN DO TO FIX OR IS THAT NORMAL?

It sounds to me like a broken transmission mount.

Get under your car... There is a black rubber mount between your transmission and your car. If that's broken it will let the tranny slap around when it shifts.

For some reason it always seems to happen when when you buy a car.

 

My have just been a backfire, did you feel it in the car? If so i'd say trans mount as stated above.
