Other guys have given good alternatives, too.Just like 99blackSS said, you are paying too much for the name. Just like with Michelin's.
I think the nitto 555s are a good suggestion, assuming they are cheaper then good years. I don't know where to get them though, tirerack.com doesn't carry them.
You went to a Mustang board?! TRADER

I normally get my Nitto's from www.discounttire.com or www.discounttiredirect.com.
I just got the last set from performance wheel outlet. I paid $122 apiece for the fronts (Nitto 555 Extreme) and $160 apiece for the Nitto Extreme Drag Radials. Keep in mind, I have a WS-6 and the price was for 17 inch tires.
I really needed a tire so I could hook the car during daily driving. I wanted to get a tire that looked similar to the rears and the Normal Nitto 555's have a similar tread patern/sidewall. I didn't expect to get the handling out of them that I got. Pleasantly surprised. The DR is a pretty stable tire even with a sidewall that is lacking as long as you keep normal pressure in them. I like to run 35lbs. in all four for normal driving and 17 in the back at the track.

Steve,
Actually, Discount Tires Direct (DTD) has cheaper prices than TireRack, and the shipping is free (not sure about Hawaii & Alaska though). I got BFG G-Force T/A KDWS' (stock size: 245/50X16's) for $117 each.
