Looking at air box mods/replacements

I'm trying to find the best route to go with the air intake setup on the formula. For right now this is what I'm running thanks to the old filter I had leftover from the LT1 CAI setup on my Z.

(yes I know its upside down! I was in a bit of a pinch time-wise)

Basically just a moroso filter stretched over the place where the factory airbox would connect, while still having the factory baffling. Couldn't tell any difference SOTP power-wise, but throttle response is definitely snappier, and the car seems to break loose easier now.

Would I be better off with this or something like an SLP lid?
As for the lid, is it better to go with something like that and the "free ram-air mod" or to go with the K&N CAI and the free ram-air mod?

Basically whats the best route for air intake on the LS1.

I have an SLP lid on mine.

That's about all you need. Just something better than the factory

Lid, FRA if you want. SSRA/FTRA if you want to take it a little farther. DOn't know how much it really helps. I'm thinking about yanking mine off and moving my B&M tranny cooler in front of the radiator. Some people say the SSRA and FTRA produced some gains, others not so much.

So you guys think the lid with factory box will flow better than the open element attached to the stock baffling?

Yes

Part of the aftermarket lids benefit is the removal of the air silencers and the turbulence they create.

Any lid, SLP or otherwise. Choose on looks and price -- functionally, they're all the same.

good to know, thanks guys. Aside from that, does anyone know of something I could maybe use tubing wise to go from the MAF to the filter element like I currently have so I could ditch the baffling/silencer?

What do you have against a lid?

You can fab up whatever tubing you want, I guess... but for $90, go with a lid.

nothing really against it, just looking at different possibilities. That and I still don't see how a nearly completely sealed box can help the car breath lol

And I really don't see where exposing an open filter element to all that hot underhood air can do anything but heat soak the IAT causing the computer to pull timing.

Lid and SSRA will get you cool outside air. And I have proven that the SSRA will get you 1 tenth and 1mph over just a lid at the 1/4 mile dragstrip.

another vote for slp lid. Also do the free mods underneath the factory airbox.
