LONG longtubes?

Would there be any gain to cutting the collector on LT's and extending the pipes further, maybe even a foot longer or doing something like adding in a 2into1 then another 2into1? I was just thinking about it for some reason.. I have some talent at welding so i could do it without any problem.

You might want to look at fabbing up some LG Motorsports LT headers, because theirs is the longest longtube they make, which is why they always make 10-15 more rwtq than all the other LT headers.

Re: LONG longtubes?

You're thinking of what's called a tri-y design (4-into-2 and 2-into-1). I think QTP makes them for the C5's, but nobody makes them commercially for the f-bodies. Too much cost and not enough benefit from what I understand. Besides, headers are only designed to improve flow or relieve restriction. It's kind of hard to improve on the current designs available without blowing cost through the roof. Ideally, SLP's and other equal-length headers are probably the best design available for our cars. But, SLP's get a bad name due to ground clearance issues. It's a sacrifice one must make if they want the extra 5hp if you ask me.

Re: LONG longtubes?

mine are actually SLP's but since I can get small stainless tubing for cheap and i have the skills to weld it, I figured I'd add on an extra 12" of legnth on my headers and we'll see how they do. I wish I could give before/after dyno numbers but since i'm waiting for my car to be out of the body shop before putting on my heads/cam I'm going to do the headers at the same time.
