List Some Inexpensive Mods

Looking for some quick ideas of some of the less expensive mods..Ya know..the mods that may not show improvment at first..but "add" up with others.

There are always the free mods
There is the throttle body coolant bypass, the free ram-air mod, the egr mod, check the FAQ section of this site and they'll tell you how to do them.
Get an intake lid, read GM high tech peformence has a comparison of lids, basically they are all the same.
You could also get a cat-back exhaust, or leave your stock exhaust in place and get a cutout instead, this makes the exhaust by-pass the muffler, more noise and power

Yeah, you'll notice a huge difference when you install smooth bellows.

Get a $75 lid from www.quartermileperformance.com. I installed it and actually noticed a difference up top.

gutting the cats....if you can program out the SES light for the rear o2s or buy some o2 simulators.

then there are some visual mods...like turning both HI and LOW beams on when you hit the Hi beams, and rigging the fog lights to stay on when the HI beams are on. you can also rewire things to eliminate DRL and auto headlights. i have instructions on my webpage in the sig.

also the $1 skip shift eliminator, and there is a way to rig a "performance shift mode" on autos but i don't know how.

someplace there is a description of how to change your stock thermostat iinto a 160ish stat for a few bucks.

and you can't forget about the HIGHLY debated maf porting and descreening.

what is the "performance shift mode"
My friend has a Grand Prix GTP that has a button on the shifter for "performance shift mode", I think it makes it shift at the redline and makes it have a more aggresive shift pattern.

did the A4 trans ams have "performace shift mode" like a pontiac only thing?

this is just something i've heard about...never researched it since i don't have an auto.

but i think it is a switch to allow the computer to shift harder and at different rpms.

do a search

If descreening your maf does not help why did GM descreen the maf in the 03' Z06 ?

cause it is a completly redesigned and calibrated maf

it's 85mm as oposed to 75...

the problem is that the stocker is calibrated to the flow with the screen and divider....not without...

and the zo6 is calibrated for bigger and no screen....

the EGR mod is where you pull the egr tube out of the top of the intake and cut some of it off. it hangs down into the flow of the intake and "theoretically" hinders flow.

it's basically free and probably gives next to ZERO gains.

and there is NO WAY that you can gain 9hp from descreening the maf! that could easily be dyno variation and changes due to engine temp or who knows what else

Did your friend have his car on the dyno when he descreened the maf ? I don't think it will give you an air flow improvment. Some guys have gone back to a stock maf with the screen in it because of problems after descreening or with after market mafs. Not saying that you will have problems if you do this to your maf. But there are ls1 cars in the 10's with the factory maf untouched. I would not mess with it. Look some where else for an increase.
