Question Is a lid really worth it?

I'm getting ready to possibly buy a lid for my WS6, but keep reading so many posts saying they either noticed a difference, or didn't notice one at all with an aftermarket lid. When I had my 3.8v6 camaro, I installed the SLP cold air induction and noticed a huge difference in low end torque and increased high end power. Should I expect this with an aftermarket lid like the Texas Speed Performance lid? I'm not sure if I should pay over $100 for a lid when people say its not worth it.

Can you feel the extra power? I was also going to remove the air silencer behind the airbox, but I DEFINITELY don't want the type of air noise that my v6 camaro had when I installed the SLP CAI. It sounded like my engine was falling apart! What does it sound like when you remove the LS1 silencer and install the smooth bellow?

first off yeah the lid is worth it, both for the increase in power...which is noticable on the high end, and for the visual effects.

now from what i've learned in 1 month of owning an ls1, the smooth bellow doesn't eliminate the air silencer. if i'm understanding it right the smooth bellow goes between the maf and the tb, replacing the accordian looking rubber piece. the air silencers are the large box like things along side the intake ahead of the maf

although i could be wrong...been known to happen

go with the black TSP lid, $130 for a good looking piece, and said to be the highest gains

definitely worth it. you'll gain some power. if for nothing else, do it to get rid of those ugly air baffles on either side of the stock intake. really cleans up the engine bay...

can i hear more air noise? well, i can't hear ANYTHING over my open cutout...

Worth it.

I'd say either get the TSP Lid or LS1 Motorsports Lid. If you have a '01-'02 then you'll have to buy the K&N Breather as well. The Lid is $130 and the Breather is $16. LS1 Motorsports has the Lid for $95, and they give you the Breather for no extra charge.

Either Lid will give you about the same gains, it's up to you which one you want.

Has anyone said it's not worth getting a lid? I don't remember seeing that, ever.

For $100, it's a cheap 8-10 rwhp. It's more worthwhile than many other mods are.

Whether or not you'll feel 8-10 rwhp is another question. You should see it in trap speed. If you want to feel something, you gotta spend more than $100.

Isn't that the only thing that really matters?

I'd take 10hp for $100 anyday.

It's probably the best 100 bucks you can spend (on a mod). $10 per 1rwhp is money very well spent.

Worth it!

I noticed a slight change in exhaust note and SOTP performance was modest but I could tell a difference.

And I got the DMS lid for $90 or something like that. The cheaper ones flow just as good as the expensive ones too.

Why do the 01-02's need the k&n breather? By the way, at a recent car show I attended, there was a 00 firehawk with a lid that had the hawk symbol on it, and no air silencer box. Have any of you removed this box, and if so what kind of gains have you experienced? I guess I'll go with the lid because I'm trying to hit 400 crank horsepower with a few bolt ons. Gotta start somewhere, guess I'll make the lid my starting point. Just cool to be able to say, hey, I've got 400 horses

The Breather connects to a Hose that went into another Baffle after the Lid. But I'm not sure why the '98-'00's dont need it.

The Lid is probably one of the easiest and cheapest Mods that gives you most Power, you cant go wrong.
