Pewter99 if you haven't noticed PhantomTA is the Moderator for this forum and definitely knows a few things about these types of posts. So its one or the other. SlP or Whisper lid. That is all. Just figured I would let you know, that it wasn't childish. IMO

Well how about this?

Which lid do you have? the SLP lid from Street Legal Performance? Or do you have a Whisper Lid From Whisper Motorsports?

The only place you can stick the gasket is to the under side of the Lid, which would be where it would seal against the top of the air filter.

So when you figure out which lid you have, and where you installed your gasket, and where its leaking at. Let us know. So we can help you.

you can tell if it is an slp lid because they have SLP embossed on the front... it would be with raised lettering.. New ones have it in white.. older ones had it looking like it just melted there.. all ugly...

whispers are smooth.. no lettering or branding that I have seen.

hope this helps..

Question

I wonder if they had their lids made by the same people that made the Granatelli lid I bought a few years back for $ 75.00 - Yeeesh !!

I wound up using some of that self-adhesive weather stripping - grey, about a 1/2" wide w/ foam backing - and sealed up the leaks on the backside of the lid, closest to the motor.

That K & N gasket just goes around the perimeter of the bottome of the lid - where the lid would come into contact w/ (and thus seal) the air filter.

Hope this helps !

Britt

I'll tell you one thing, though - when I first put that lid on (not knowing it was leaking) it sounded awesome - like a 4 barrell from the days of old !!

If it's a wisper lid,it doesn't fit like the stock lid. The front lip in between the clamps must be on the outside of the lower part of the air box. Not in the indention. It will not seal properly or stay clamped if you fit it in the indention rather than the outside. So in other words, when you mount it you must be able to see the front of the lip of the whisper lid. As for the SlP one, i have no idea.

I have another lid, err, ls1motorsports lid? anyways, you might want to check if the tabs in the back are aligned and in the slots.

Also, if you get the Holly Powershot filter (cottonwire-oil mesh type like K&N), they make a filter that exactly fits our airbox, so you don't have to worry abuot a gasket.

I have a LS1 lid. It was kind of a pain to get the tabs in back to fully seat. Once I got them in, no problems. Good luck.

Lightbulb a way to seal a wisper air lid

I have a wisper air lid and I had a problem with the clamps not staying locked, so I took them off completlly and used two black rubber bunjy cords, it works perfectlly with the problem I had, mabey it will help with your problem.

The gasket that I got with my slp lid wasnt big enough to go around the outer edgaes on the inside of my lid?! I look all over the place for somewhere to put this thing but was too small to pu anywhere. Where would I need to put the double sided tape you were talking about? Should I go all the way around?
