K&N Filters bad for ls1's???

ok this might sound stupid. But the other day when I took in my car to the dealership because the check engine light came on. The service advisor asked me if I had a k&n air filter for my car...and I said no. The reasoning behind all that is because he said that the lubricating oil for the filters make the mass airflow sensors go bad. I never heard of that or experienced that so I don't know. What's everbodies opinion on that....i think it's bull****

It is not BS, it can and does happen if the filter is recharged improperly. I would not recommend a K&N anyways. They offer no real HP gain and do NOT filter as well as paper.

I'd say that's actually pretty common. A lot of people "over oil" their filters, but they filter just fine.

Filter fine is possibly true, still not as good as paper. Check out http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/airfilter/airtest1.htm

Judging from the "scientifically conducted" test (put a piece of fabric behind the air filter and snap a photo of it afterward) it seems that all the air filters tested suck equally.

lol, maybe so.. But for the lack of any real gains, I choose not to chance it.. I'll stick with paper..

lol well, yeah. Anyone who thinks K&N is good for 5rwhp is a rookie---- or running a 1000+rwhp.

Paper filters will work just as fine and are 1/4 of the price of a K&N

Looks like i won't bother getting a k&N either.

As for it damaging the wires on mass sensor, that happens. I used to clean my old car equipped with a K&N every now and then with electric contact cleaner and a cotton swap (gotta be real careful). Seemed to help.

So by the time you buy 4 filters the K&N is paid for.

Check out Holley Powershots and other filters too.

The fact still remains there is no power to be had from an air filter.

Yup, don't look at filters as a performance mod and you'll be much happier.

I bought the Fram Air Hog for my 98. I don't think it was a hp gainer, but it couldn't hurt. My filter needed replacing anyway so I decided to get one like this and not have to replace it anymore.

Re: K&N Filters bad for ls1's???

We did an airflow test with the usual paper filter that people use and a K@N. This is no lie but the K@N aloud way more air flow. That much increased airflow should alow like a couple more HP.
