Exclamation K&N Air Intake (FIPK)

Is the FIPK any good for the LS1, or is a lid better? More HP?

The FIPK is fine, and will have a couple of hp more than the lid/filter combo, but for the price the lid/filter is alot better.

I had the FTRA and I tested with it on and off, it did nothing. It is a waste of $ if you ask me.

Re: K&N Air Intake (FIPK)

yeah no kidding the FTRA and SLP ram air kit are pointless...they do NOTHING to actually ram air.

the SSRA has a wide scoop under the front bumper that collects air at speed, while acting as a standard CAI at slower speeds.

somebody on here tested the SSRA at the track, then tested it with the scoop removed (comes in two pieces) which makes it identical to the FTRA and SLP unit...they got consistent 0.1 second loses at the track. showing the effectiveness of the ram air scoop.

the SSRA and a lid equal about the same cost as the K&N kit, with much better results

GMHTP tested the SSRA and only picked up .06 sec and .35 mph. Is that worth $200 to ya?

FIPK has marginal gains if any over a lid, is that worth ~$200 to you also?

Re: K&N Air Intake (FIPK)

I went with the Volant CAI on my WS6, just to be different, and because I found a good deal on one. If I had it to do over again I'd get a clear lid if I just wanted to be different.

Most folks say CAI does better on the dyno but lids are better in the real world. Not worth losing sleep over, just buy what you like.

Exactly what I was getting at. I would just stick with a lid and filter, then put the other $200 you would have spent toward some headers.

Did you know you can get a complete header Y pipe, and catback system from Hedman for about $600 shipped? Now THAT is worth the $!!!

FIPK is a good intake kit, but maintenance is a drag if you drive a lot. A lid works just as well, and they're a tad cheaper. More expensive doesn't always mean "better."

Thanks for all of your help guys, I will go with a lid and filter combo instead of the FIPK. Now about that filter, is paper better than say a K&N? Thanks again.

stay with the paper...........i've heard it filters better and aftermarket filters don't give u anything really...........not worth 50 bucks for something u definitely won't feel and probably won't see a gain with either

Re: K&N Air Intake (FIPK)

Hey I've had the K&N filter for awhile and you wouldn't believe the gunk that has built up inside the throttle body! What's the best way to clean this? I got some TB cleaner, took it off and cleaned it but what about all the crap up in the intake manifold?

Re: K&N Air Intake (FIPK)

I've been running K&Ns for years in several cars. The wife's GA has ~128k miles, 120k of it with a K&N, my SS has a K&N, my old SS had one and it kicked dust up like crazy from the fan, and I have never found dirt or "gunk" that was built up on the clean side of the system.

Get what you want, but after 5 paper filters you bought a cotton gauze reusable filter and a cleaning kit.

And no, don't look to an replacement air filter for gains.
