Just a stupid question about idle

When my car is being driven and the rps are x amount....is it normal for the rpms to go up when you put the trans into nutral while driving at the same speed? I let someone drive my car yesterday and we were at lets say 1200rpm and he put the shifter into nutral at about the same speed. The rpms went to 2000+. He said there is something wrong with the car. Is it normal or what?

Depends on how it's tuned, what mods, etc.

It's normal if the car isn't stock especially if the MAF was touched and the car was tuned per your sig.

I would say that there is nothing wrong with the car. If you are holding the gas pedal in the same position and shifting the tranmission into neutral , you are taking all the drivetrain load off the engine. Think about it .

My very first thought was why in heck are you taking it out of gear while rolling down the road?

Exactly.. You took the load off the engine and the idle should go up a little bit and then come back down.. That's normal..

Try doing it yourself. You buddy may have still had his foot on the gas and trying to mess w/ you...
