Post Just installed SLP LS6 intake

As the topic states, I just finished this weekend installing an LS6 intake on my 2000. I used the SLP model as I required the EGR provision in my area (automatic emissions failure if you delete it).

It was a longer install than I figured. The wiring is a nightmare to access and just wrestling the old unit old without breaking a fuel injector or sensor is a tall order all unto itself. Getting the old unit out and reaching some of the back connections is the hardest part - especially the sensor for FI#7, and the hoses at the back of the intake. But, overall, install appears clean and the SLP EGR provision (contrary to what others have said) seems very solid if installed properly.

Just thought I'd post this in case anyone was planning it.

Dude, just about everything on the LS-1's is hard to access.

Did the intake come with directions? If so, is that what you followed?

There were instructions, and I referred to them occassionally. But instructions without pictures are usually quite useless.

I used jmx's instrustions (pictures) a little too (Moderator on www.LS1tech.com) who did an install where he deleted the EGR. So it was similar. Jon did it w/o disconnecting the fuel lines, which I wanted to do.

It is amazing how little planning went into designing the engine bay for the f-body. But that's why they call this the working man's car... it's not for the faint of heart to modify.

All in all though, the SLP intake is better (IMO) that what others have said. Looks good and works well.

I read a post on LS1.com about installing the LS6 intake to help resolve the PCV oil comsumption problem and to delete the EGR. I thought it was only used just to boost a few hp? I guess there are other advantages.

I haven't had the chance to run it at WOT yet since the install. Giving the gaskets a brief break-in period. I don't expect much of a gain (maybe 5-8 hp) or SOTP feel now. It's more for building for the future - with a H/C setup or FI, it can add another 20-30 rwhp above and beyond the stock LS1 bottlenecked unit.

I will test it with Gtech and the dyno soon. I did sessions just prior to the install and will update soon.
