intakes and fuel injectors

On a 02 Z28, is it possible to change either the intake or the injectors, WITHOUT removing the engine?

Re: intakes and fuel injectors

of course it is...you can have the injectors out in about 30mins

the intake is a bit more complicated, but still not hard and VERY possible with the engine in the car.

are you thinking of adding an LSx intake?

Re: intakes and fuel injectors

you read my mind! and thanks for the info! Yes i am thinkin of runnin the fast lsx intake, the 90mm one, and the throttle body as well, of course. Was gonna do that, the injectors, and a high flow fuel pump. Hoping to make my car faster....think it will work??

Re: intakes and fuel injectors

Yes, it'll make your car faster. Not much, though.

To really allow the intake to shine, you'll have to open things up on the exhaust side too. The LS6 intake that comes stock on an '02 Z28 is pretty darn good. Adding a set of headers and a nice catback (if you don't already have them) will complement the intake really well.

Then get a set of ported heads and a cam, and you'll be cookin'!

Don't forget to do all of the supporting mods. If I remember right from your other posts, your car is a six-speed, and that means that power adders put your rear end in danger.

So what are your goals for this car? Do you just want to perk it up a bit, or do you actually plan to drag race / autocross? If you plan to race, do you want to compete, or are you just there for fun? Do you have any specific goals (i.e. you want to trap 115+ in the quarter) or limitations (i.e. you want to run full weight and maintain daily-driver status)?

I've noticed that (so far) you make different posts for each mod you consider. One of the great things about this board is that there is someone here who has experience with pretty much any combo you can come up with, and it's the total package that really matters.

Write up something that tells us what you really want out of your car, and how you think you want to approach getting it, and the people here will get behind you and help you get exactly what you want.

Welcome to CZ28.com! You'll find that the members here are, for the most part, more mature than those on most forums you'll find. Jason and Chris (the board admins) have a really nice thing going here.

Re: intakes and fuel injectors

As other have replied, both the intake and injectors are an easy swap with the engine in place. However, unless your car is heavily modded (heads/cam, FI, etc) you are wasting well over $1K with the FAST 90/90...

Waste of money on a stock engine.

well...kindda guys...

if he's planning on doing h/c soon, it's not a bad thing to do now. especially if he's trying to gain some important knowledge on how to work on his car.

know what i mean?

yeah, but in that case id wait to install the intake til the h/c are done. no sense in removing it again for the heads.

Yeah, I installed it in September -- I just haven't updated my site. Agreed, it's pretty darn annoying! Sometimes, though, when the light comes on, I shift to 4th for the gas mileage, even though it's not forcing me to.

Question Re: intakes and fuel injectors

What are the advantages of having that LSX intake over the LS6 intake?

Re: intakes and fuel injectors

better flowing runners, bigger resevoir of air to draw from, wider TB opening.

similar advantages as the LS6 is over the LS1.

but on a bolt on car the gains are minimal since there isn't such a demand for air as with a H/C engine.

i think it really starts to shine at rpms higher than you would ever spin a stock cam, which is why an LS6 is just as good a choice for MUCH less money.

on h/c engines is where the LSx will be an advantage

Re: intakes and fuel injectors

"h/c", by the way, refers to "heads/cam"

The Fast intake is also nice if you want to run nitrous.
