Intake manifolds

Okay, so the LS1 intake is composite (minimal heatsoak, but low strength compared to metal intakes), and flows pretty well.

The LS6 intake flows a bit better, and has the same heatsoak advantage and strength disadvantage when compared to metal intakes. Right? Are there any strength differences compared to the LS1 intake?

The FAST LS1/2 intake flows even better yet, and is made of a different composite material which they claim is 30% stronger than the LS6 intake while still resisting heatsoak.

First, just how weak are the factory intakes? I am under the impression that the only time it would ever come into play is under boost. How much manifold air pressure would it take to blow one up?

Second, how much power would be lost due to heatsoak with a metal intake?

Just curious.

well...look at this. its a 6hp gain just from rerouting the coolant away from the TB on an LT1.

imagine that happening on the entire top of the engine!!!

the intake would have to flow DAMN well to out weigh the loss due to heatsoak i would think

Re: Intake manifolds

FAST claims a 20hp increase on an LS1 w/ LS1 intake. I haven't shopped around for other intakes, but I doubt any metal intakes are getting much better gains than that.

Whatever... it's going to be a long time before I can afford a new intake of any kind.

Re: Intake manifolds

ive seen a few nitrous back fires and the intakes have held up...to be honest the pressure from a blower would probably blow a ring faster than the intake i would think..

i wonder if there is a way to mount a cold water/ice pan on top of the intake (ls1) and clear the hood or go with a cowl induction hood

And I saw one where it didn't. It broke it all over.
