Intake Manifold

Hey i was wondering if the ls6 intake manifold is worth the cost to put on my 99 ls1? what are the gains if any usually seen from this mod?

Re: Intake Manifold

doing a search will probably get you a better answer, but whats your long term goal? if you plan on massive mods if might be worth it to save the money and wait to get a lsx 90mm setup. if not, ls6 is fine. some on here say bone stock you will only see 5-10rwhp gain. throw h/c setup in the mix and i believe you will see up to 20rwhp gain.

Re: Intake Manifold

well, $400 for 10hp. I wouldn't consider that too worth it. LT's are a better bet.

If you can find one cheap tho, i'd spring on it.

Re: Intake Manifold

I'm like you, I just can't bring myself to spend $500 for 10HP.

Maybe one day I'll let lucky and find a wrecked LS1 at a junkyard, and hope the owner doesn't know how much these things really go for.

Re: Intake Manifold

i over-paid for mine and got it for $340 shipped.

plus $35 for the coolant tubes and plugs ....

but they are worth it on stock, bolt on, cam only or mild heads/cam...

anything real radical and the FAST would work better.

but honestly, how many guys spend $600 for headers/orp and only see 15hp...

remember...speed takes money...how fast do you want to go???

Re: Intake Manifold

Its may only give 10 PEAK hp, but it also gives gains over all RPM and broadens the torque curve. 2 things that are more desirable than peak hp gains, unless your a ricer.
People spend $200 for things like pulleys or the SSRA, so if it is worth it would be something you need to answer. Do some research, the info and dyno charts are out there. Hell, people even spend what I payed on my complete exhaust system just on a catback or over $1000 on headers. Were those mods worth it? Thats for them to determine.

Re: Intake Manifold

dude, its worth the buy. It not just the peak power, like greed4speed said, the gains across the powerband is increased.

however, if you want to go heads/cam or larger cubes, save up and go for a 90mm fast intake or a tpis oval intake and manifold..

It's worth it. Do a cam swap while you're doing the intake.
