If you dont then your odometer will rack up unnecisary miles.
HPP or Custom programing is a must.

Yea, as mentioned above, you will need to recalibrate your speedo. HPP is easy to use and it is the most common way to do this. Other software is handy too.

Yes, you should recalibrate your speedometer.

I just changed my gears in my A4 to 3.73's, and purchased the SLP speedometer recalibrater. It was $150, and for me it was a perfect alternative, being that I do not plan to do alot of extensive modding to my car.

I let the gear shop install the recalibrater, and it splices into the wire harness inside the passenger side of the vehicle. You remove the kick panel and mount it inside the fender well.

My speedometer is right on the money, and I am not messing with the computer settings. This for you will be very important, because as I, you live in California, and under new smog regulations that are comming in the near future, they state is going to mandate a reading of your computer settings as part of the smog test. Any deviation of the stock settings will give you a fail test, and a free ticket to the BAR.

Unfortunately, the SLP and other in-line speedo re-calibrators will also re-calibrate your speed limiter. Depending upon what gears you had to start with and what gears you are going to, you could wind up with a speed limiter under 110 mph.

And if you want to sweat some future law, just get another PCM. You can get 'em for around $500 with all the calibration and tuning. Then you can always put your stock back in for your smog checks.

V6toZ28;

I respectfully disagree with your statement concerning the recalibrater changing the top speed setting of the computer.

The only way to change the top speed limiter is to flash the computer (i.e. dealer, or HPP3).

I read the installation instructions throughly, and the ONLY thing the recalibrater does, is change the electronic signal back to your stock gear setting. In my case it was 3.23 to start with. The dip switch settings are different if you are going from 2.73 to 3.73, vice 3.23 to 3.73. If your car came with 2.73 gears, and non Z rated tires, I believe then your limiter is set to 110 MPH.

Even though I do not have auto-tap, my car was ordered with Z rated tires from the factory, this gives me a speed limit of 160 I believe.

If any of my answer is incorrect, I would appreciate it if you would tell me so, sighting facts please.
