I would get these (I did get these) and I am very happy with them. Should put you just a little bit over 300 by the time you get them mounted.

Hmm, other than those, I think the only other cheap tires are Kumho's. I think it's the 712's I see everyone getting.
As for ME, I'm more than happy with my Nitto's. But they'll cost you closer to $400.

I have Kumho ECSTA Supra 712's on my '95 LT1 Z28. I have 17x9.5" rims with 275/40ZR17's all the way around.
This is the best set of performance tires I've ever had at any price. I know these are cheaper than others, but holy Gawd do they bite!!! I had Eagle MS's before, and I couldn't put the pedal down until almost all the way through 2nd gear without just smoking them.
With the Kumho's, I can hammer it by halfway through first without smoking them. Get them hot and launch right, and you can get some killer standing starts. Handling is equally impressive. Tread pattern looks cool for what that's worth to you...

I've had both the Khumos and the Yokohama AVS ES 100's. While both tires are excellent, the Yokohama is a A LOT better for traction and the Khumo is a tad better in terms of handling. My vote is definitely with the Yokohama though. I can cut 1.95 60' times all day long on the Yokos.

You need to give more information on what you're looking for...good tires for the track? good tires for autocross? good tires for daily driving? good tires for bad weather?
For tires with awesome dry traction on the dragstrip or autocross, go with the Nittos. You can pick up some 275/40/17s for about 150 each at Discount Tire Direct.
For good all-around tires, try the Bridgestone Potenza RE730s...
good luck,
Shane

After driving and autocrossing f bods with cooper cobras, GY F1's, the kumho 712's toyo pyroxes, and BFG KDW/S's I have to say I favor the Bridgestones. Buddy has the 712's on his car and they suck at everything but wet weather traction.
The one guy who gave the good review said he stepped up from a 4 season tire to a 3 season... and thats why he saw a good improvement. There are better tires to be had out there, but they are more money. With tires, you def get what you pay for.

I paid $510 total for mine.
Like I said above. You wont ever find me on any Kumhos anymore.

OMG stay away from that guy!
here are the ratings and what the rating on that tire is:
N 87 mph 140 km/h Temporary Spare Tires
P 93 mph 150 km/h
Q 99 mph 160 km/h Studless & Studdable Winter Tires
R 106 mph 170 km/h H.D. Light Truck Tires
S 112 mph 180 km/h Family Sedans & Vans
T 118 mph 190 km/h Family Sedans & Vans
U 124 mph 200 km/h
H 130 mph 210 km/h Sport Sedans & Coupes
V 149 mph 240 km/h Sport Sedans, Coupes & Sports Cars
When Z-speed rated tires were first introduced, they were thought to reflect the highest tire speed rating that would ever be required, in excess of 240 km/h or 149 mph. While Z-speed rated tires are capable of speeds in excess of 149 mph, how far above 149 mph was not identified. That ultimately caused the automotive industry to add W- and Y-speed ratings to identify the tires that meet the needs of new vehicles that have extremely high top-speed capabilities.
W 168 mph 270 km/h Exotic Sports Cars
Y 186 mph 300 km/h Exotic Sports Cars
The Yokohama AVS ES100 has the following spec: 245/50WR16
