Hypertech Programmer For Tire Size

i have an 02 programmer and didn't see any gains from changing all the crap in there.

i just upgraded tires from 16 to 17 inches and am gonna run the program again for the tire change, is it even necessary to run it to change the tire size or just unload this thing??

thanks

Chris,
I recently followed up on a related post by "rncotton" involving the HyperTech PPIII. In that thread, rncotton stated that the guys from HyperTech set the settings on his '01 TransAm WS6 as follows, so he is assuming they're optimum(you may want to try these settings for yourself; if they don't work out for you you can always reset it to the stock settings):

1-2 shift +2
2-3 shift +2
3-4 shift +4

Rev limit -- 6400
Shift Firmness 50%

This doesn't speak to your querie about tire sizes, but if the +1 tire upgrade (ie, going from 16's to 17's) is a direct replacement, it shouldn't affect your settings. Try it out for a week or so and see! I'm going to set my '01 Z-28 to the above settings and see how it goes...

He has a six speed ... the only thing you can do with a HPP3 is the power tune, tire size, fan settings and gears.

Going from 16" wheel to 17" wheels does not impact the tire size ... the stock 245/50/16 is the same diameter as a 275/40/17 ... about 25.7 inches ... so the HPP3 isn't going to do anything for you here.

If you don't have gears ... something other than the stock 3.42s ... the HPP3 isn't going to do anything for you here.

The fan settings are a convienence. For everyday driving, with or without the 160* thermostat, it really doesn't do anything for you performance wise. If you go to the track a lot and you are competetive about your time slips, to the point that a difference of .01 or .02 makes is important to you, then the HPP3 may be of value to you.

So we come to the power tune. If you are basically stock, the HPP3 tune may provide some benifit. If you have done any mods, particularly MAF mods, the HPP3 tuning, in combo with those mods, may be causing you to actually lose power ...

Good Luck
