Question hypertech power programmer

Anybody use the hypertech power programmer 3 and have any input on how effective it is? They claim it gives you 28hp and 30 lbs of torque, but I have heard otherwise. Is it worth the 300 dollars, and what kind of number do you actually see?

Thumbs up Can't give you actual #'s, but by SOTP ...

I'd say mine does a damn fine job !

What it has allowed me to do is to optimize my cooling fans for the 195 stat, add the power programming, and tweak the shift points (A4) & rev limiter.

If you are a M6, you may be wasting your money - although it will allow you to compensate for different gears & tire heights as well.

LS1 Edit is far more powerful a tool from what I understand, but it is also more expensive and I think requires a PC (laptop) to use.

Not so w/ the HPP3.

Oh, one last point - mine came w/ the car, so I did not have to shell out $300.00 for it - well, not "directly".

See if you can pick up a used one for cheaper - or, better yet, if you can find a board member that will let you try his or hers for a bit.

They can only program 1 car at a time, and they are year specific, so you are a little limited in your search.

Good Luck !

(And, my .02.)

Cool

Definetely do not spend 300 dollars on it when yoou can pick one up from various message boards for about half that price.

I don't have the programmer yet, but will most likely have one in the future. I used one on my LT1 and especially due to being able to program the shift points/firmness and cooling fan operation it was already worth the 180 bucks (bought it used) for me.

I've seen and read about dyno results where people claim to have lost hp due to the programming, but I think those cars have usually been otherwise fairly modded already.

So, on a more or less stock car, the benefits might be more visible. IMO, that is...

For modded cars, and maybe M6's also, the LS1 Edit might be better alternative.

Re: HPP3

I got one from ebay about 2 months ago. And I only paid a little over $100. It was used but in good condition. If you get one MAKE SURE the programmer is the same year to tune your car with, because if you get another year programmer it won't work.

I definatly noticed a difference with it. I have firmer shifts(like a shift kit), adjusted my tire, wheel size and ajusted my cooling fans too.

Overall, very happy with it, but I have an A4. I noticed you have an M6. So u may not benefit much from it.

I used one for fans, shift firmness/points and gears over a year - worked great. Never tried the tuning though. As stated above they can be bought used for around $160 if you just want to try it - you can always resell it. If you get one used remember they're year specific and must be returned to stock or it won't work on your car. If you want something new, and with even more options, look into the Predator also.

With the A4 tranny, you will notice a night/day difference on the Butt-O-Meter. With my '01 Z28, I saw a 14 RWHP increase simply by using the tuning.

I no longer have that car thanks to some idiot on the interstate, and now own a M6 WS6. With the M6, you won't notice as much difference in the seat of the pants since your shifts are being changed.

I use mine for the 4.11 gears and the 160* t-stat. I've still got the older tuning, which means I ping above 4,000 RPM. I need to swing by and get my programmer updated to the new tuning. (I was a beta tester and never did get around to picking up the final release.)

Im using the tuning and fan controls for my 160 stat. I can tell a slight difference from before and after. Id sell it in a heart beat to get a Preditor. But I just spent 11 hundred on wheels . Guess it will have to wait awhile
