Hypertech 160 or 180 thermostat

I'm getting ready to buy one of these thermostats to go with my HPP and I was just wondering what everyone is going with and if there is really any plus or minus's between the two. Any help is appreciated. I have a 98 Z28 A4 and I'm just getting started on the modds, so it's all stock right now.

I live in Michigan and have to drive my car in the winter time. That's why I elected to go with the 180 deree thermostat.

On the 95 Z28 I used to own, I had a 160 degree thermostat and it took a long time for the car to warm up in the winter. If you are not worried about you heater kicking out a lot of heat, go with the 160. But if you are like me and have to drive during the cold months, you might want to go with the 180.

Good luck!

Yeah... like 95TealLT1 said if you are worried about your heater getting warm enough in the winter then go with the 180. I live in Alabama and I had a 160 on my 95 Camaro.. for the most part it was great since we dont get the kind of weather he gets up north, but sometimes I did wish for a little more heat. Of course I put another 160 in my SS so I guess it was not bad enough to warrant not using again. If your heater is not a concern then I would say go for the 160 it keeps the engine cooler. Of course the HPP3 I have asks if you are using a 160 or 180 so either way would be fine as far as what goes with the programmer.

Hope this helps..

Thermostats

Yeah see I live in Indiana and I'll have to drive the car on the really cold days as well. So I'll probably go with the 180 then. Thanks for the help.

Colder LS1??

I agree the 180 would be better in colder climates. I am not convinced that the lower temps will help the LS1, it did in the LT1 though. Here is a link if you have not seen it on lowering the temp on the LS1.

Some food for thought. Later>>>>>>>

I'm not sure about up north--cause I live in texas but the 180 therm is not very far from the factory therm so it won't make that much of a difference, so if you want a difference in temp I would still go with the 160, just my 2 cents. I have done resurch though, go to LS1.com to the question and answer section.
