hydro roller vs solid roller
#2
Hydraulic roller lifters (HR): used on production LS1 engines, and almost all pushrod engines. For cam swap, good up to 6500 or a little more if you have coordinated components. There are many cam choices, especially "milder", but still powerful ones. Don't need periodic valve lash adjustment, and are generally quieter then solid rollers.
Solid roller lifters (SR): Higher rpm potential than HRs, but need some lash adjustment, and are somewhat noiser than HRs due to lash. Not as many "mild" cam lobes available, but lots of "wild" ones. SRs generally used when HRs don't give enough rpm, like 7000 and up. More race oriented than street. Some folks think having a SR gives "bragging rights". I'll take a faster car whatever the type of lifter!
Ask your engine designer what is best for your goals and other engine and driveline mods. If you are planning to change engine stuff and don't have an engine designer, IMO, you should get one.
