Hpp Iii
Re: Hpp III
I don't have one. At least not yet. Some people lose hp, some gain a bit. Depends.
The power tuning is quite worthles, IMO, but at least you can reprogram for gear ratios, different wheel/tire combos, raise rev limit/shift points, change shift firmness etc., so it is somewhat useful tool.
I'm sure there will be bunch of people pitching in and saying "Don't bother. Buy xxx instead." However, most of the other handheld programmers are much more $$$ than the HPP. The other ones might be a bit more useful, though.
Then there are all the computer programs, too, if you are looking for even more options for tuning.
Dangerous buying from Ebay? As long as the stock program has been downloaded back to the car, there shouldn't be any problems. It's not more dangerous than buying it used from anywhere else. And you might even have better options for recourse.

Re: Hpp III
It's a waste of money for the "power tuning" effect.
It's not a waste of money for the other things it can change, as said above.
I currently have one for my car, and it's worked great for me the last ~2 years, being able to adjust shift points up and down at the track, and compensating for multiple gear changes
(2.73's, 3.73's, 4.10's). As well, I drove with the shift firmness set higher for quite a while, and the shifts felt good to me?
However, I dyno'd the car last September, and on the dyno it became very evident that the engine was pinging really bad (I'd only noticed the occasional ping, nothing serious before). That was running with 94 octane too!
So, I pulled the power program, and ran very similar dyno #'s even without the Hypertech tuning.
Point being, if you're getting into serious mods, heads/cam, etc., then you'll want/need a better programmer than a Hypertech. If you're just playing around with your relatively stock car, then it will work just fine for you
.

Re: Hpp Iii
Hypertech tunes tend to COST power after modding what was before a stock car + HPP tuning. I got one for a bargain which I had planned on using to adjust tire/wheels and gears...but it's been collecting dust for 4 years now.
