Re: How well does Hooker Cat Back flow?

i got the hooker catback form my 94 a couple weeks back. i love it. i had a hooker on my old iroc, and i got another one for the lt1. i love it. sounds better than flowmaster, loudmouth, etc. i don't personally like the borla sound myself, so i can't attest to how it sounds compared to that. as far as loudness, i have edelbrock **** headers, and a half gutted cat and it's not very loud at all. hearable, but not to my pleasure. now, my iroc on the other hand had the same headers and a straight pipe in place of the cat and it was a screaming loud system when you got on it, and nicely toned when you were'nt on it. i think it's all in the cat myself. has to be... also, another factor is a cam. a friend of mine has a hotcammed 94 Z with the hooker system, and it id perfectly loud when he gets on it, and still somewhat loud when daily driving (not annoyingly loud though) i have to give the aero chamber muffler and that hooker catback 2 thumbs up!! i would put one on every f-body i ever had. oh yeah, and as far as flow, it's within a couple rwhp of about all the popular systems, including the loudmouth. (so i've heard from many reliable sources)

Re: How well does Hooker Cat Back flow?

I've had a Hooker catback on both of my LS1s. On a stock car, it is pretty quiet. Still sounds nice at WOT, but not obnoxiously loud. Add headers and no cats, and it wakes up really nice! Deep rumble at idle...ROAR at WOT. Less rasp than any other catback + headers + no-cats I've heard.
Highly recommended...
good luck...

Re: How well does Hooker Cat Back flow?

In the sound level chart, what kind of Flowmaster did they use? It can't be a 40 series if it's comparable to a Magnaflow. Anyone know how the aerochamber compares to a 40 series in terms of noise level?

Re: How well does Hooker Cat Back flow?

I am very happy with the Hooker catback. My car made 419 rwhp through it. Volume depends on a lot of things. When I first put the Hooker on with a stock motor, it was close to stock at idle, but a little louder at WOT. Next I put a TR220 cam in. It got noticeably louder. Next FLP headers with no cats, and it was very loud. I put the FLP cats on, and it sounded much better than stock or previous setup, but was louder than the stock manifolds & cats. Later a new motor that is 11:1 compression with a 231/237 cam went it, and the cats came off. It is definately louder than it was with the TR220 and the same exhaust. Around town it is just loud. At WOT it screams, but still sounds awesome.

This is what my car sounded like with the TR220, FLP's, no cats and the Hooker.
