How to tell again if block is a LS6?
#2
From an old thread.
Unfortunately, the pics of the LS1 & the LS6 block no longer work.
See: http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...k&pagenumber=1
I believe the answer was that if you look on the passenger side head closest to the intake there is a "bullseye" mark on the LS1 & none on the LS6.
If so, I have seen a LS6 block in an '00 car - the question is whether or it was replaced after production or not.
My '99 has the bullseye mark, thus it's a LS1.

From what I understand, not all LS1s have the bullseye...so that's not a "for sure" way to tell. Although, if you do have a bullseye, then you know it's an LS1, no LS6 had the bullseye (99% sure about that).
If you don't have a bullseye:
To be sure that it's an LS6 block, you're gonna have to look at the block casting number. You'll find it on the back of the block...drivers side, above the tranny flange, where the head bolts to the block.
LS6 casting number: 12561168
LS1 casting number: 12559378
