I put mine in 30,000 miles ago, I really haven't cleaned it because I remember somewhere I was reading I never really had too. Now I think about it and I am pretty sure that I should because it looks blacker than black on the intake side and it's still red on the up side where it goes into the engine. When do you guys clean yours?

 

I try to clean mine at least once a month. It's so easy and I really hate the thought of dirt getting into my high dollar engine. I figure it's cheap insurance.

If it's still red it's doing it's job, but if it is really dirty you might be losing some hp.

I guess how often you clean it depends on the conditions that you drive in. I cleaned mine after 10,000 miles, but it really didn't need it. If you drive in dusty areas, I would do it every 10,000 miles otherwise you can go longer. K@N says to clean it every 50,000 miles, but that seems high to me. Since yours is black I would definitely clean it. I would use the k@n recharge kit. It cost around $20-30 and you can get it at advance auto or pep boys

 

I would also use the K&N kit, but the price is only like $10-$15.

I clean mine when it looks dirty.

They actually filter better w/more dirt but your car doesn't breath as well either.
