How much is too much

Hey all. I just bought my car a month ago, and starting today, it has 3000 miles on it. Already got my free oil change, am I driving this too much? How long did it take you guys to get 3000 miles in? Thanks for the input

Two months, and I'm at 4800 miles.

I drove the hell out of mine too.

My reasoning is that if I'm paying so much for it, then I might as well use it.

AND if in 5 years when the payments are over, IF the engine isnt running as well and strong as I want... get another loan for $20k or so (less than the car), and re-vamp the thing... heh =)

I put 24,000 miles on my '01 Z28 in just under 8 months. Long commute. Too bad I had to sell it to get something more practical (a Sentra).

Almost 7500 miles on mine in about 3 months!! I find it hard to get out of the driver's seat sometimes!! IMO, cars are meant to be driven, so that's what I'm doing with mine!

I have a '98 with 60k miles on it. Though I will be taking it off the road for winter, it will help keep the miles down for a few months.

You didn't buys these cars for their resale value, you bought them to drive them.

edit: I can't spell.

wow...I'm a scuba diver and didn't know I could use my car to dive in as well ... just kidding.

These cars are meant to be enjoyed on the road....so enjoy it and just keep it well maintained. You'll love every second of it! just ask anyone else.

this might make you guys sick , but i only put about 250 miles on mine this hole summer. damm i do love to drive it , but i only use the car to take it back and forth to car shows . than its put away till the next show. now i did not buy it for investment . but that car is just to sweet to use every day. they do not make them any more , so one never knows where there value might end up? so i do try and keep the miles off it. but thats just me.

Cool

"teal monster", I totally hear your logic, and I know there are a lot of guys who do the same with these cars, and other "classics", but in my mind, fine if the car is worth $xxx, xxx, but do I want to sell it? even for $xxx, xxx??? Well, I guess if it was something astronomical!? but otherwise, NO, I want to keep my car (because it is so fun to drive) so I'm saying screw it with keeping miles off the odometer, and I'm driving the car!

3000 miles in one month, to me that's a lot, I drive about 700 a month, because i live pretty close to work and all. take care of your Ls1 and i don;t think there is any reason why the engine won't last 250,000 miles, it will need some repair but it should last that long considering how slow as it has to run, we cruise like below 1500 so there's not a lot of wear and it's aluminum so the heat is low which decreases oil breakdown. The cars value will likely decrease because of age regardless of miles so if you don't drive it and get use from it, your actually losing money.

capn pete , i am not telling you guys what to do with your cars. just , that thats the way i use mine. i begged my wife to let me buy it . i had every intention to use the z as a every day driver. but driving back and forth every day to work had to stop. ( it was a fun ride ). but every day wear and tear just got to me. so then i told the wife i have to get a car i can drive everyday. boy that went over well!!! but she let me buy another car. so now i have a pampered z . its on show duty now. thats just the way i like it.

Hey, I have every intention of one day getting a (semi-) reliable 2nd vehicle to drive during winter (especially) and even for daily driving potentially, but even still, I don't mind driving the Zedder everyday just for the "fun factor" alone!

I'm curious though, who on this board has racked up really high mileage on their LS1??? I mean, true "original" miles on the motor, like 120,000+ miles?? How are they still running by that point, and are there any serious problems with them?

Mine is 6 months old today and it has 10,400 miles on it. Any reason I can find, and I'll hop behind the wheel. At first I was worried about the miles too. Especially since it's 1 of 41 but I can't justify paying that much every month to have the car and not drive it. And it's so much fun to drive. It's definately the most fun car I've ever driven.

Have I had close calls with idiot drivers? More than you can count on your fingers and toes. But I watch what's going on around me and (so far-knock on wood) haven't had any damage from daily driving it. Have fun with it.

Drive it!
