Post How much oil do you use between each change?

I have a '98 Z with 64k miles, and between each change ( every 3000-4000 miles) I am using about a 1 quart of mobil 1 10w 30. I'm just wondering if this is normal.

If you reply, please put the year of your car, type of oil, and how many miles on your car, and how many miles between changes.

I'd like to see if there is a patteren, or if its just me.

Looks like about 1 quart per 1,000 miles, seems a bit high to me.

2001 LS1, with 3,000 miles on it.

Change it every 2,500 miles

Mobil 1, 5-30w

'99 SS w/ 39K -

Mobil 1 5W30 - 1/4 quart so far in 3K miles of 1500 per highway, 1500 daily commute of ~ 12 miles highway traffic , 8 miles city.

I have a 2800 stall, and am known for running up to high speeds & then coasting back down, which I believe is one of the ways that an LS1 tends to use oil.

Ah, well - my exhaust ain't gonna rust !!

i have not added any to mine,(2000 Z) it has never been noticably lower on the dipstick. i have put about 15k on the car, it has 33. i really take it pretty easy on the car and use mobil one 5w30. i have heard that they use a lot of oil if you are running around 3500+ rpm all the time. take it easy on the car and it will treat you well. i still do have fun in the car, just dont abuse it.

Sold a '98 Z28 with almost 20000 miles, NEVER used a drop of oil. Used 5w30 dino. New '02 SS with 3200 miles hasn't used any yet. 5w30 Mobil 1....I don't think what your car is using is excessive.......my opion.

I use valvaline full synthetic but i use 10w-30, have a hotter climate down south.
So far i burn 1 1/2 quarts per 6,000. Have heard if you run anything other than Mobil 1 you will burn more oil.

I have a 2002 Z28. I am running 5W-30 Mobil One. I use about 1/2 Qt. evey 2700 miles. I have a Qusetion? Why is eveyone changing there oil at 3000 miles? 2002's have an OIL LIFE MONITOR. The car tells you when to change your oil? I am sure this INFO on this oil system is recorded in the computer. and if you never reset your oil life system they will know you didnt read your owners manual. With that said, you dont have to change your oil for a year, or with in your next fuel stop after the oil system light comes on.
Now if they wanted to they could void your warranty for changing you oil at the wrong time? Now i dont know what they will check if you have a major problem with your car like a blown motor but i would not press my luck to see if they will pick up the tab on $5000 part. if you didnt follow the proper checks with in thje owners manual.

Do i trust the OIL LIFE MONITOR SYSTEM ? hell no! but i dont want to pick up the tab for a new motor

changing your oil earlier can only help.. except maybe if you strip the threads to the oil pan bolt and oil filter.

Its a matter of prefernce.. If your comfortable in keeping your oil in your car longer, more power to you.

Well i also know that oil lasts longer then 3000 miles like the oil companys say. Its a matter of getting the best resuts from your oil and its life. Oil also has a brake in point new oil isnt the best for a motor. I also Work on trucks in the Marine Corps. We have a system we use to send oil down to the Naval Base in San Diego. where its tested to see if its still good, we do it once a year on all trucks. The oil is standard 30W. We are running it in 5 ton trucks and HMMWV's most for the time the oil is in the trucks for over a year, sometimes 2 years. Now if we a getting results like that from standard 30w Texico, Shell, and all the other cheep oil the goverment can get thier hands on. What do you think you are getting from a $4.00 qt. of Moibil One, I would say alot more then 3000 miles. Also think about how much dirt we are getting into the oil running the hell out of these trucks all over the desert. Trust me Marines kill the hell out of these trucks if you can do it in your car it has been done in a truck. Like i said i dont trust the system in the car. but i dont want to pay for a new motor if the dealer want to be stupid about an oil changes. This is a good topic to as the dealer. when i get sometime ill try to find out some awnsers. I am not putting anyone down for doing what they think is best i was just taking in general. There are some people on this site that do not know much about cars. I thought i would put all this out there. Maybe there is an Oil expert out there that can put some light on this. I am sure someone that tests oil from some company owns an Fbody somewhere. Bottom line do what you want. I will change my oil like the manual says to, at least till my warranty is up that way if i blow up some motors i dont have to pay for it.

What about if you don't drive it much? My SS has 2300 miles and is 7 months old. Does oil loose its effectivness just sitting in the pan for so long. I changed it at 1000 miles and every three months. 2 oil changes total. nExt oil change is next month or begining of September.
