How much better is the SLP Cat-back than a z28 cat back

I have an opertunity to get the stock slp cat back exhaust for pretty cheap. But I'm wondering if it would be worth it or not. What is different between the oem slp and the oem z28 cat back exhaust?

Waste of money.IMHO

if your looking for a great sound, go with borla or Corsia. Thats about all your paying for. The SLP is used on SS carmaros i believe but your not gonna tell a diference. Real Preformance gains are from stuff like LS6 heads(ported etc.) superchargers, NOS. Mufflers are a rice rocket trick that has no treat

I was thinking more along the lines of sound quality. Wasn't looking for a big increase if any out of it. Maybe I should have stated that. ;)

But I just thought I'd ask since I could have gotten it for less than $50. Thanks for the replys.

well for $50, if your exhaust that is on the car now is not looking so good, then yeah it would be a great buy. But i'm sure it doesn't sound any different than yours now. Borla, flowmaster or corsia all have a very aggressive sound, very loud. Click on my link in my sig' and hear what Magna flow sounds like. Its an 3 1/8th muffler

The SLP exaust is not a "stock" exaust. It is an aftermarket system that anyone can purchase through SLP. It is an option on the SS's. I don't really see how anyone can say that a catback will be more looks than power. These cars are highly exaust restricted. Anything you can do to free it up helps tremendously. The SLP is actually one of the highest hp making catbacks out there. It's just that no one buys it cause it is so quiet. Even though it is quiet, it still gives the car a much more V8 sound than the stock exaust that sounds like blowing bubbles in a glass of water. It is a $600 dollar catback through SLP, so if you can get it for $50 bucks, go for it. If it is the true SLP catback it will look like this: http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...RTNUMBER=31029

I'm probably one of the few people that actually likes the sound of the SLP exhaust.

I had the Hooker on my 95 Z and have heard Flowmasters and a Loudmouth on LS1 cars.
The SLP may be quiter at idle , but when you get on it it sounds refined but bad-ass :metal:; not loud just to be loud.
I have no desire at all to change my muffler. This is the first car I've had that I was happy with the stock exhaust tone. :thumb:

....just my opinion though.

I second the vorte for SLP, I love it and "quiet" isn't the word "Refined" is. That and thfact that it takes a Loudmouth or GMMG to out flow it.

Buffdaddy 01-04-2004 10:48 AM

For $50, why not try it. If you do not like it, you only lose $50. I have the slp exhaust and it may flow well, but it is soooooo quiet. I would choose a different exhaust, if your looking for sound.

cerealtool228 01-04-2004 02:49 PM

Yeah...... SLP's performance exhaust is rather really quiet ... and wanted something more vocal ... if your going for a nice sounding exhaust system.... GMMG is the way to go ;)  ...

Greed4Speed 01-04-2004 05:07 PM

Ya, but can you get a GMMG for $50?

cerealtool228 01-04-2004 05:11 PM

lol ..... you can buy 2/3 of an exhaust tip ;) , but reasons for why I bought GMMG was flow and an aggressive sound...... SLP just has flow ... and a quiet sound .... as for $50 sound really cheap .... i dont think I would let mine go for that cheap

jm8881 01-04-2004 10:21 PM

Where can I get a sound clip from a ls1 with the gmmg catback? I just sold my Ramcharger, god I'll miss it, and now I have $1000 to play with.

cerealtool228 01-04-2004 10:23 PM

I can try and put one up late tomorrow night .... but wont do any drive-by's due to snow on the ground ...

jm8881 01-04-2004 10:26 PM

I just got off the thunder racing site, why in God's name is a muffler and about 10ft of pipe worth $400-$800?
