How many miles get put on your car when you bring it in for service?

I have a new car so I go to the dealer and they fix it under warrenty, and it is in the dealership today. I am kinda currious to find out how many miles they put on it in the $hity weather vs. the normal 10-15 miles i have gotten in the summertime. I dont see why they have to drive it 10 miles to check the SES light. I think ill see 0-1 miles today, but i might be wrong.

How bout you guys?

They hook up a scanner to get codes that tell them the problem. Unless it is something rare, (there are a few) there shouldn't be any "road test" miles. Someone may be out joy riding in your car.

Yet another reason to make friends with the mechanics at the dealership.

I had my Vig installed today at a shop, forgot to write down my mileage. When I got the car back the radio station was changed and the odometer was reset. I know they needed to test drive it, but why reset it? Hmmm...I won't forget again!

It could be from unplugging the battery, I know they did when my converter was installed

anyone ever try those things you plug into your lighter so when you unhook the battery you dont lose presets? They actually work!

when I had my car worked on last it was hardly moved.. Ill see again.. cause it now needs the rear pinion seal fixed..

so we shall see.. I keep a log of all of my miles.. every gas receipt has the total miles and the trip for that tank..

I am a data freak i know.. but hey.. its fun..

You all remember what happened when that one Ford mechanic test drove the car and bragged online.. He got fired! I dont think the dealer wants the liability so I doubt it should be having any road tests without the owner present.

I just took my SS in on Tuesday. They replaced the front driver's side shock and tightened a loose bolt on the convertible top. They were just getting done aligning it when I got there. They test drove it while I was walking around looking at Tahoes. Mileage total 0.3 miles.

The guy even gave me some pointers for when I put my new springs on this weekend.

Your SES light might have been something related to a driving scenario that had to be duplicated in order to make sure it was fixed. I wouldn't get upset over 10 miles. Now, if they didn't test drive it, and you had to take it back today for the same problem, you'd have wanted them to test it to make sure it was fixed. Right?

17 is my high... i have only gone back for a rear... yes it took them 17 miles to hear it whine... while it took me 1 tenth lol. whats odd though is when my dad called up and bitched about it they put their "best mechanic" on it and i got it back with .2 miles. That time it only took 2 tenths to figure out it was fixed O_o. Dealers are gay.

5.5 miles today........ and the problem is still there . They told me they couldnt figure it out.... and they couldnt drive it in the snow. I got the keys and what do you know 5.5 new miles. I walked back in and asked why there were 5.5 miles on my car if they didnt drive it. They told me they did and couldnt figure it out. It turns out the service writer didnt write the problem down like i explaned it (happens every time.... always end up going in more than once). They brought the mechanic out and the service manager. I showed them the problem and they said they could fix it no problem. GEEZ. So well try it again tomorrow.

PS. I would be perfectly fine if they took it out for 100 miles as long as they fixed the problem and didnt get **** all over my car.

35 Miles on my Z71

Georgetown dealer put 35 miles on my pickup changing the fuel pump. He said they had to test it. Some test.
